“Our shared success” – More than a competition: Entente Florale Europe

The Entente Florale Europe (EFE) is Europe's oldest and most comprehensive environmental beautification competition, which has been encouraging settlements to consciously and aesthetically develop their environment since 1975. Kecskemét is not just competing for an international award in 2026: we are moving forward on a community and professional path that focuses on a liveable, sustainable and thriving city.

Cooperation

This competition is a common cause of Kecskemét. We thank our institutions, NGOs and economic partners for their cooperation!

We are on a green path

Environmental protection is not a campaign for us, but a tradition. Watch our videos about how urban green space management has developed and how our largest economic players committed themselves by signing the Environmental Charter.

Green Heroes

This competition is a common cause of Kecskemét. We thank the economic actors of Kecskemét for their support!

Sustainability is a real common cause for us!

Environmental Charter

The Kecskemét City Environmental Charter is a unique local government and corporate collaboration launched in the spring of 2023, which was joined by the city's largest economic players in the name of climate awareness. The primary goal of the agreement is to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change, implement the city's climate strategy in practice, and share and coordinate companies' environmental innovations and best "green" practices. The signatories pledged to take steps in their own areas too to protect the environment. More than 16 large companies are already actively participating in the work of the regularly meeting Environmental Protection Professional Council.

My blooming garden!

Do you love capturing nature? Let’s bring that same passion into our gardens! Capture your flowery window, balcony, or little garden, and upload the photo to inspire the community! Let’s demonstrate to the judges that every single street of Kecskemét is flowering!

Kecskemét Wildflower Seed Mix

During the Mother's Day planting event, volunteers will present registered mothers with complimentary wildflower seed mix packets as a token of appreciation. Let’s plant these seeds and turn our own homes into part of our collective green value. Make your garden part of a Blooming Kecskemét!

Greening Programs

Renewal of the City's Lungs (2006–)
The complete rehabilitation of a former industrial site (brick factory pits), which has now become the largest continuous green space in the region. It provides daily recreation for 40,000 residents. Tens of thousands of trees have been planted, contributing to the development of a rich birdlife and a significant reduction in the urban heat island effect.
Civil Cooperation for Parks (2017)
Kecskemét pioneered a model where residents and local businesses could take direct responsibility for beautifying their environment through the "Adopt a Park!" program. As a result of this initiative, several public spaces were renewed through crowdfunding and volunteer work, laying the groundwork for today's Environmental Charter.
Urban Oases (2021–)
The Community Gardens of Széchenyiváros and Hunyadiváros were established through the collaboration of local NGOs and enthusiastic residents. These spaces not only promote sustainable urban food production but have also become true hubs for community building. They encourage knowledge sharing regarding the impacts of climate change, resulting in the creation of dozens of flourishing, well-tended urban plots.
Green Urban Rehabilitation in Homokbánya (2021)
A 21st-century sustainable urban park was born on the site of a former military barracks. The project focused on modern landscape architecture and community spaces. The development included the creation of a 3,600 m² water-retention park, a nature trail, and an irrigation system controlled by smart solutions.
Climate Change Adaptation (2023)
Kecskemét was among the first to recognize the dangers of water scarcity in the sand ridge region. Instead of draining the runoff from flash floods, we retain it on-site using specially designed rain gardens and stormwater reservoirs. This results in more efficient stormwater management and a milder microclimate during drought-stricken summer days.
TERMOSTAR Biomass Heating Plant (2023)
With the commissioning of the TERMOSTAR Biomass Heating Plant, approximately 80% of the natural gas used for heat production is being replaced by locally available renewable energy sources. Reducing dependence on natural gas further strengthens the security of supply for the 40,000 consumers in Kecskemét connected to the district heating system. This locally sourced renewable energy serves as a guarantee for maintaining a stable and predictable service.
Kecskemét’s First Miyawaki Forest (2024)
The Greening Civil Society (the local group of the 10 Million Trees foundation), with the involvement of nearly 100 volunteers, has established a fast-growing, dense urban mini-forest in the heart of the residential area. 120 native saplings and shrubs were planted to improve air quality as a micro-environment and to enhance biodiversity within the neighborhood.
Herb Gardens in the Museum Court (2026)
The garden in front of the Medical and Pharmaceutical History Collection of the Katona József Museum has been renewed as a result of the collaboration between the Greening Civil Society and the local community. Themed herb beds, designed to complement the exhibition, have been established, serving as a perfect example of linking cultural heritage with environmental beautification.
Green Infrastructure Development Action Plan (2025)
With the adoption of the Green Infrastructure Development Action Plan (ZIFFA), Kecskemét has set the greening of the city as an even more prominent goal for the coming decade.

The Most Floral City (2025)
The professional jury of the "Virágos Magyarország" (Floral Hungary) competition has recognized Kecskemét's commitment with its highest award. The city has received the invitation to represent Hungary in the Entente Florale Europe international competition.
